What is ClickFix?

ClickFix is a social engineering attack that tricks consumers into compromising their own devices. Attackers create fake error messages or pop-ups that appear to be legitimate system notifications. These messages claim there’s an issue with your browser, connection, or account that needs immediate fixing.

The scam typically instructs you to:

  • Open Windows PowerShell or Command Prompt
  • Copy and paste a “fix” command
  • Run the command to “resolve” the issue

In reality, this command downloads malware directly onto your device, giving criminals access to your sensitive information.

How ClickFix Targets Banking Customers

Cybercriminals are using ClickFix specifically to target online banking users through:

  • Fake banking portal errors – Pop-ups claiming your session has expired or encountered an error
  • Phishing emails – Messages appearing to be from Bank3 or other financial institutions asking you to fix account issues
  • Compromised websites – Legitimate-looking sites that display fake error messages
  • Search result poisoning – Malicious sites that appear when searching for login pages

Red Flags to Watch For

Be suspicious if you encounter:

  • Unexpected error messages asking you to run commands
  • Instructions to open PowerShell, Command Prompt, or Terminal
  • Requests to copy/paste code to “fix” banking access
  • Pop-ups claiming your bank account needs immediate attention
  • Any message asking you to bypass normal login procedures
